  • Protecting Your Vehicle Wrap in the Winter

At Wrap Guys, we know that harsh Canadian winters can take their toll on vehicle finishes, leaving them dinged and damaged. That is why we recommend that car enthusiasts consider wrapping their vehicles in order to create a higher level of protection for a car’s exterior. While wrapping your car with a vinyl car wrap can help prevent potential damage to your vehicle, protecting your vehicle wrap in the winter is equally as important as protecting your car.

Protecting your vehicle wrap in the winter

    Clean Your Car Frequently

The best way to maintain your vinyl car wrap is by cleaning it, especially during harsh winter conditions. At Wrap Guys, we recommend washing your car at least every two weeks. While it seem like an unpleasant task to wash your car in the winter time, doing so will prevent contaminants, such as dirt left from traveling in the snow, from leaving permanent marks on the vinyl wrap. The best way to wash your vinyl wrap is by hand, as power washing can be hard on the vinyl vehicle wrap.

Avoid Letting Snow Turn into Ice

Another great way to protect your vinyl car wrap is to get rid of the snow on it as soon as possible. Snow that is left unattended overnight will freeze into ice, which can stick onto the vinyl and make it much more difficult to remove without scratching or peeling.

    Avoid Using a Scraper

While using a scraper can get rid of the ice on your car, using a scraper can scratch and peel off your vinyl car wrap. This is especially true for window wraps. Instead of using a scraper to remove the ice from your car, you should use a brush with soft bristles to gently brush the snow off the body of the car. If you have a window wrap on the rear window, you should use the window defroster to melt the snow enough so that it can be safely brushed off.

    Get Rid of Road Salt

Driving in the snow also means driving through road salt, which can get stuck to the car and to the creases of your car’s body. If left unattended, the chemicals in road salt will begin to eat away the vinyl. While the vinyl car wraps from Wrap Guys are capable of withstanding some salt, the salts corrosiveness can result in serious damage if left for long periods of time.
